Flat bar bending

Our team has extensive experience in bending bars or strips of various shapes and sizes, including round, half-round, square, hexagons and rectangular (also known as flats), into rings and ring segments. Bars are solid metal, which makes them highly bendable. Bending bars the easy way, along the y-y axis, creates a belt-like shape, while bending bars the hard way, along the x-x axis, creates a giant metal washer shape. Although it is the most challenging bar bending process, we have the expertise and proper tooling, methods and machinery to bend bars the hard way if required.

 

Our bar rolling process is often more cost-effective than burning shapes out of a plate, as it yields more usable material and generates less scrap, resulting in lower material costs. We can bend a wide range of bars, including hot-rolled, stainless, aluminium, brass, copper and other alloys. However, we don't bend rebar due to the damage its ridges cause to our tooling.

 

Advanced Metal Curving have the ability to curve flat bar either 'on edge' or 'on flat'. We can bend bar from 20 x 3mm all the way up to 250 x 25mm.

Please note:

  • Material size: This list is a guideline based on MILD Steel. We curve any and all sizes and thicknesses in between. If your project requires a different material thickness or type such as aluminium, please contact us with the details.

 

  • Orientation: Refers to the direction of the curve for members of unequal size, such as RHS or Angle. These can be rolled multiple ways. Please refer to the images above to specify the orientation.

 

  • Minimum inside radius: Refers to the tightest radius possible, measured to the inside of a continuous curve. Altering material type, thickness, or the addition of straight legs, tangents or multiple radii will affect the minimum radius.

 

  • Minimum green required per length: Green is the term used to describe the material (wastage) required on either end for the machine to take hold. This material remains straight and needs to be removed after rolling i.e. 500mm green per length = 250mm green each end. The remaining length will be usable curve. How much green depends on the section size, orientation and machine type.

 

  • Material supply: AMC can supply or customer free issue.

  • Transport notes: AMC have an overhead crane and forklift on site to handle loading / unloading of over-sized semi-trailers. Dimensions and weight can be supplied to assist you to organise freight.
