Circular hollow section (CHS) curving

At Advanced Metal Curving, we specialise in rolling all Circular Hollow Sections (CHS) such as tube, pipe and line pipe along with nominal bore. With the right machine, tooling and methods, we curve pipe to very consistent radii due to its symmetrical nature.

In 2024, we will increase our curving capability with new tooling to curve CHS up to 273mm diameter pipe (250NB).

Nominal bore pipe curving

Our pipe rolling services are designed to generate minimal distortion. However, tighter radii have a higher likelihood of distortion and ovalling. To ensure the best anti-distortion solution for your custom pipe bending project, we work closely with you to determine the most suitable approach.

Please contact us to confirm capability with your application.

Capabilities

Refer to the Capacity chart below as a guide to mild / carbon steel pipe curving options offered by Advanced Metal Curving. If your pipe size is not listed below, don't assume it cannot be done! Please don't hesitate to contact us to enquire.

Please note:

  • Material size: This list is a guideline based on MILD Steel. We curve any and all sizes and thicknesses in between. If your project requires a different material thickness or type such as aluminium, please contact us with the details.

  • Orientation: Refers to the direction of the curve for members of unequal size, such as RHS or Angle. These can be rolled multiple ways. Please refer to the images above to specify the orientation.

  • Minimum inside radius: Refers to the tightest radius possible, measured to the inside of a continuous curve. Altering material type, thickness, or the addition of straight legs, tangents or multiple radii will affect the minimum radius.

  • Minimum green required per length: Green is the term used to describe the material (wastage) required on either end for the machine to take hold. This material remains straight and needs to be removed after rolling i.e. 500mm green per length = 250mm green each end. The remaining length will be usable curve. How much green depends on the section size, orientation and machine type.

  • Material supply: AMC can supply or customer free issue.

  • Transport notes: AMC have an overhead crane and forklift on site to handle loading / unloading of over-sized semi-trailers. Dimensions and weight can be supplied to assist you to organise freight.
